Program on 30th Anniversary of Civil Liberties Act

SEP 20 THU 2:00PM Program on 30th Anniversary of Civil Liberties Act
RCC Coil Concert Hall, 3890 University Av

"Hear a panel of experts on the significance of the Civil Liberties Act as we mark the 30th Anniversary of its signing. This Act serves as formal apology for Japanese American internment during WWII and provides restitution for its survivors - the only such act by the US to any marginalized group. What made this possible? What has been its impact? What about other groups' grievances? And, given the current political climate that denies human rights, due process, and civil liberties to folks on the basis of their citizenship (or lack thereof), ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientations, or religious affiliations, what can history tell us. This event is free and open to the public."
